Week 3 Blog prompt
Well, although there are relationships and marriages valuing money over other qualities, but however, it does not mean that there is an upward trend. I personally STRONGLY BELIEVE that there is NO UPWARD TREND! In this world today, you can see many couples posting messages of how much they love one another and willing to spent their lives together for the rest of their lives. They hardly ever talked about money. There will definitely be people considering about money before marrying, but however, love matters more. What is money when you are going to spent the rest of your lives with your soul mate? In my opinion, couples who tie the knot when they only value money, I feel that they had just wasted their entire lifetime! WHAT A WASTE! When you marry your soul mate, you marry her/his flaws as well! Because they are going to depend on one another for their rest of their lives! In conclusion, I believe that there will not be an upward trend of relationships and marriages valuing money more than valuing other qualities although there are still some examples in this world.

Alright, basically I believe that war has evolved a lot from the past to the present today. Well, world war 1 and 2, Vietnam wars, Korea wars were fought due to the political indifference among different governments. They fought for Land, they fought for Power and most importantly, they fought because they disagree with one another's point of view. And these wars are mostly initiated by those high-ranking officials. They also fought for resources and these wars resulted in much fatality and casualties. However, today's wars are so much DIFFERENT as compared to the past. Today's wars are fought for freedom, fought within countries and mostly are initiated by normal citizens in the youth. They fought against their own government They fought not because for land, not for their own selfish interest, but for their country's future. Today's war are different because these wars are fought for freedom! Today, in this world, we would hear news about the wars currently going on in Middle east and you mostly hear or see the word freedom. Wars has evolved greatly from the past to the present. From personal gain or political indifference to freedom and against corrupted government.

Task 2 : Critical Analysis of Poetry
It is narrating on the children that lives a completely different live, and born in a world of war with no light. It shows how blinded they have been turned into by the external circumstances and why it deserves our sympathy. The phrase "war consume them" further evokes the reader's feelings on how the children have been used as a machine for war, which then leads to the war being the entire point of their lives.
Language and Dictation
Metaphors were used. One example would be the title, in which darkness do not necessarily meant a place with no bright light to light up the place. It has a deeper meaning in which refers to being blinded by war.
Personal Response
Definitely, its very painful to know that children who are forced by the war circumstances to go to war. They had nothing to do with war and yet they are involved! The author had made of use of this point and depicted it very well in his poem. He is able to allow the readers to know how children are "kept in the dark". I really sympathize and empathize them. Through this poem, I have also learn to treasure my life more. I am taking things for granted in my daily lives. On the other hand, children same age as me or even younger had to suffer much more than me, they had to go to war, they do not get enough shelter and food.

War ----- A Personal Response
This picture depicts this solider sitting, holding his gun tightly. The mood of this picture is sad. The soldier seem to be very scared and quiet. The background tells me the mood is very cold. The atmosphere of the picture is very intense. The black and white picture further increase the tension of the atmosphere. This picture, I must say, is full of emotions! The way he is looking at you tells you how desperate he is. He is desperate for his family, desperate for security and desperate for warmth. His eyes tells me how afraid he is and the way he is holding his gun tells me how insecure he is. His facial expression tells me how the war had greatly affected his life and took his life away from his hands. His expression also tells me how much he had hated the war! He expression also tells me how much he hope the war could stop and he need help. I can conclude that war is really a terrible event, it take away many innocent people's lives and their families. War will only result losses on both sides, no one will gain anything from war.

LA letter
Memphis, TN 38180

30 March 2o11
Dear Mr Nick Jones,
How are you? Hope you are fine after this disaster. Although you were not one of the victims of the 9.0 earthquake, I believe you are mentally affected and you still are recovering from the shock. Well, I'm writing this letter to give you and your family some encouragement and I hope it helps a little.
First of all, I believe that you are very concerned about the Fukushima power plant, you are afraid of the spread of radiation, but be assured because I have faith in the Japanese Government to clear up the mess of what the tsunamis had done. And I feel that you should believe in them and although it is going to take some time, but they are trying their best. Not only that, many nuclear engineers and specialists have come from countries all around the world so you all have a lot help.
Secondly, I can see that you are concern about the food products. You said that food are running out and everyone are panicking and rushing down canned food, water from convenience store and everyone's life are changing. You all might also experience blackouts occasionally. For the shortage of food and water, I believe that every countries are doing their part by giving food to Japan so for the mean time, you might have to wait for a while. For the black outs, I think this problem might stay for a while till the Fukushima power plant is fixed.
Lastly, I think that you should do your part by staying strong and morally support your family. If you collapse, how are they going to stay strong? I also believe you can help those victims of the earthquake and tsunamis if there is a chance.
Have fun during your trip and take care. I believer you, all citizens of Japan can survive this catastrophe and carry on your lives. There is no doubt that lives would affected due to the radiation but I believe that you guys can adapt to this new surroundings and new situations. Send my regards to your family and take care!
With love,
William Zhao

Discover my true Identity
Hey kids, well, I am going to tell a story. Relax; it’s not how I met your mother. However, I’m going to tell you how Dad discovers himself. Alright, sit down tight. Remember Uncle Marshall, Aunt Lily, Aunt Robin and not to forget, Uncle Barney? Yeah, there were my best friends back when we were high schools. They were with me when I discovered about my true self.
Back in 2011, when we were in high school, I used think I am a follower, not a leader. Why did I think of that? Well, great powers sure come with great responsibilities. I used to think that being a leader was tiring and troublesome. A follower has freedom, without any responsibilities and with a leader leading. But just this incident, it totally changed my life. Without that incident, you would not be seeing Dad leading the world best company.
Well, I was kind of a “nerd” in high school. Being bullied, push around was common and let alone humiliation against me. There is this Devil inside me, also wanting to explode but yet without the guts. I got into this badminton club and Jesus gave me the opportunity. As the days pass by, life had been normal for me, but not others, I found out that being able to withstand all these bullies has only on solution. To be a leader and lead them onto the right path. So I trained extra hard during trainings and for the upcoming tournament. It had not been very easy; it can only be described by the sweats and blood I had put in. Till the day when the captain and vice-captain positions were allocated to.
“Will, you are the captain. And, Finn, you shall be the vice-captain. And, that is it for the announcements for today”, announced by our teacher-in-charge. I was shocked, extremely shocked, so shocked that the impact could cause a building to collapse. Why? WHY? I mean, had I not done enough? There were only doubts in mind. Not long later, I began to have thoughts that maybe I was born to be a follower, never a leader, who always get push around and being bullied. Well, during out friends gathering, we discussed it at the teenage “bar”. Pretty cool with sodas.
“Hey, come on man! You are Ted Mosby! You aren’t going to chicken out, are you? Alright enough, just suit up! I have plans that can blow your mind! It is going to be legend… wait for it… wait for it…DARY!” as usual, Barney Stinson.
“Come on Ted, you are stronger than this? Right Lily?” talking to be me though looking at Lily, his sweetheart.
“Yeah, baby, you are so hot right now… Ops sorry, Ted, you can do it!” Lily, also, looking at Marshall.
“Look at me Ted, look at me! Tell me you can do it! Louder!! “As enthusiastic Canadian as ever, Aunt Robin.
“Am I not doing enough?” I murmured. And kids, for the rest of the day, the 4 of them continued talking while I was thinking about it. And for the next few days of training, I had not been focusing and soon, it caught my coach, Sue, attention. She came up to me and had a very long conversation with me. Well, I had forgotten about the details but I remembered that she was quite disappointed. Yet again, we went for our daily gathering during lunch. As usual, the five of us. I told them that my coach came to warn me to stay focused on the training. But guess what? Barney went to flirt with girls, Robin chatting with somebody else, Marshall and Lily “dating”. Well, just left me alone. While having lunch, and I think.. Maybe I really still not doing not enough? Maybe the coach is testing me? Maybe this and that? I was very confused and I was trying to seek a light in this black box. Finally, God as if send an angel into my life to guide me.
During the next of school, a girl named, Stella, your mum, came to me, talking to me as if she knew about my troubles. It seemed that she has been catching up my blog, “Tedmosbyiswawesome.tumblr.com” We went to have a cup of coffee. During the conversations, to be honest kids, I hadn’t been paying attention, she was just too gorgeous. After a long and long chat, I think I actually find her voice do sound like angel. But that was not the point; the point is that what she said. Although I did not really pay attention, but I did remember some parts which played a role as a motivator. Yeah, maybe I am really not doing not enough and seriously, I should show some leadership during the training, encourage my teammates more often, initiate drills and well, many more. So as days passed by, well, I’m sure to see my coach nodding his head.
Okay kids, you have to understand that sometimes in life, when everything is going smoothly, something is always bound to happen. Well, so something happen. A new kid just joined our badminton team well so, and he… rather spoiled. His name is Max, nicknamed, Fatty Max. He always came late for training, slacked during trainings, and many more which I had forgotten. But the main point is, he was the obstacle for me. I knew I had to do something to him. So we, the “usual awesome 5” head to our club, and shared my story. They sure came up with many ideas. Some are worth trying:
“You should give him a heck of a scolding! Show him what you got!” said Robin.
Some were just boring.
“Just bring to a teacher…” Both Marshall and Lily suggested together.
Yet, some were just too crazy.
“Come on, Ted, can you just suit up even once?! You should just punch him in the face like never before. It’s going to be legend…wait for it… wait for it… DARY!” Barney jumped around while he talked.
At the end of the day, I waited for the opportunity. True enough, it came real soon. So this very “special” day, Fatty Max finally did something which gives me the reason to do what I am supposed do. He kept complaining that he was tired and don’t want do this and that.
“Huh… Can I don’t this or not. Very boring leh… Can I just help you all the timing?” complained, max. Then, there is this feeling ran through my body. This anger and power gave me the strength. I walked towards, grabbed his shirt, pushed him back to a wall and screamed at him.
“Who the hell you think you are! You are so fat and do you want to stay so fat for your entire life! Is this who you want to be?! And, I can swear that with this screwed attitude, you will be done for your LIFE!” And, that was it. That is the moment. Guess what, kids? His face was so shocked that he can make a patient die instantly. Yeah, he just stood there, controlling his tears.
And guess what kids, I somehow transformed his life. He was so determined to slim down that he lost about 15kg and became quite buff. Not only that, he became one of my good friends. Furthermore, he became very committed to badminton.
Alright, back to the story. And soon, my coach saw the potential in me. He gave me a chance to prove myself. And, that day was a turning point for me. I did not make my coach to feel that he had made the wrong decision.
Hey kids, there is funny thing about leadership. One can have leadership skills yet may not be a leader. And, a true leader is someone, who you can really rely on and trust him like a soul partner. I believe that everyone has a leader inside us, it’s just that who can discover it…

Telephone Conversation
Q1. This poem is full of colours not just of skin, what do you think these colours signify?
The colours used in this poem signifies things. Firstly, " Plain or milk chocolate" gives the readers a image of the authors. Well, as chocolate is dark, so it basically tells us that the author is a dark-skinned person.
Secondly, when the author told the landlady that he is a African, there was " silence. Silence transmission". This shows that the landlady is very reluctant to rent the flat to the author as discrimination towards the blacks were common during that days.
Lastly, the colours used in this poem shows that the author is a African American and he did not liked to be discriminated by other people. This can be seen that the fact that he kept explaining to the landlady, he is not really "black" although he was black-skinned.
Q2. What does the dialogue in this poem reveal about these two characters ?
Firstly, when the author first saw and told the landlady that he was African, the landlady was immediately shocked and felt reluctant to rent this flat to the author.
Secondly, the author used many colours to describe himself in this poem to show the contrast between the landlady and the author as the author is a Black and the landlady is a White.
Lastly, the landlady might be found guilty for renting this flat to the author as there might a law that says whites are not allowed to rent flats to Blacks no matter how willing the whites are willing to rent the flat. In a nutshell, the poem shows a deep contrast between whites and blacks during that time seems to be due to the discrimination of the African American in the past.
Q3. The post dramatizes a battle, who ins finally and why?
In the end, the author wins the " battle". In stanza 1, the author insists that the landlady has to sell her flat by saying, " I hate wasted journey". This shows that the author will be very upset if the landlady does not rent the flat to him.
Then, the landlady discriminates him by saying, " plain or milk chocolate". However, the author does not take that as a defeat as he knew it would happen when he said that he is a African. Then, the author express his anger by the different types of red he used in the poem. In the last stanza, the author was really pissed at the landlady as he said," wouldn't you rather see for yourself" when the landlady kept asking the colour of different parts of the body of the author.
In conclusion, the author won the "battle". It was because he was very determined to be able to rent the flat and he was able to "out speak" the landlady.

-story has been set in the current times.
-the settings tells me that Boori Ma is about to commit suicide
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
-story set at the writer's apartment
-story set during the 1970s
-the settings tells me that the lady is going to tell Sherlock homes something shocking.
Pride and Prejudice
-story set at Mr and Mrs Bennet house
-story set during the 19th century
-the settings of the story tells me that one of Mr. Bennet's daughter is going to marry
Question 4
In chapter 1 of " To kill a Mockingbird", the setting is set in a very old tradition type of town. Well, in a old tradition town, there are certain types of tradition in the town. This can be supported by the people in the town are biased towards the whites, they discriminated the African American. You actually don't see discrimination against the African American in America these days, because if you discriminate them, I can guarantee a punch in your face. A very good example in chapter one is that, Tom Robinson is a accused wrongly yet he was not responsible. He was a African American and he was wrongly accused for raping a white lady. He lost the case although he was totally not responsible in the event.

Trials of a true Southern Belle and Southern Gentlemen
Hey guys! Alright this is going to be the last homework post! So I'm going to keep it good and Cool. haha COMMENT AND ENJOY!:D
Southern Belle and Gentlemen
Well, there are rules of etiquette for Southern gentlemen and Belle. For the Southern Belle, they have to be Properly etiquette, Penmanship and they have to learn Ballroom dancing. While, for the Southern gentlemen, they have to be Respectful and Humility. Here are the more examples of what Southern Belle have to be :
-Never wear white shoes before Easter or after Labor Day except is if it is a bride.
-Thank you notes are a necessary component of being gracious and appreciative.
-Never chew gum or smoke on the street.
-Never show anger in public. Smile and act like a lady.
-Act helpless and confused when it's to your advantage; never let them know how clever and capable you really are...
-Charm, Charm, Charm.
-Be elegant and graceful
Alright, in the past, the Southern Belle would be responsible for all the household matters and supervision of the household's slaves once they are married. Respectable Southern women were expected to do their part to hold up the plantation image which included being subservient to the powerful husband.
So how it was related to To kill a mockingbird''?
Atticus was a gentlemen, impartial and very polite to people around him. However, on the other hand, Bob Ewell was ruthless, violent and also discriminates people.
Alright! DONE!! FINALLY! PLEASE DO COMMENT AND ENJOY!:D
Montgomery Bus Boycott and Scottsboro trials
Hey guys! William Zhao has just came back from the movie the GREEN HORNET! haha Jay Chou can't speak very smoothly but its still good! Alright, let's get down into some serious business, haha, today I would be blogging about Montgomery Bus Boycott and Scottboro trials.
Montgomery Bus Boycott
What is Montgomery Bus Boycott? The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political and social Protest campaign that started in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, USA, intended to oppose the city's policy of racial segregation on its public transit system.
The next morning at a church meeting led by the new MIA head, King, a citywide boycott of public transit was proposed to demand a fixed dividing line for the segregated sections of the buses. Such a line would have meant that if the white section of the bus was oversubscribed, whites would have to stand; blacks would not be forced to remit their seats to whites.
This demand was a compromise for the leaders of the boycott who believed that the city of Montgomery would be more likely to accept it rather than a demand for a full integration of the buses. In this respect, the MIA leadership followed the pattern of earlier boycott campaigns in the Deep South during the 1950s. A prime example was the successful boycott a few years earlier of service stations in Mississippi for refusing to provide restrooms for blacks. The organizer of that campaign,T.R.M Howard of the Regional Council of Negro Leadership, had spoken on the brutal slaying of Emmett Till as King's guest at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church only four days before Parks's arrest. Parks was in the audience and later said that Emmett Till was on her mind when she refused to give up her seat.
The MIA's demand for a fixed dividing line was to be supplemented by a requirement that all bus passengers receive courteous treatment by bus operators, be seated on a first-come, first-served basis, and blacks be employed as bus drivers. The proposal was passed, and the boycott was to commence the following Monday. To publicize the impending boycott it was advertised at black churches throughout Montgomery the following Sunday.
Scottboro Trials
So why were they so significant? Both of these incidents show that how unfair it was towards the blacks during those days. They were somehow ''lower class'' than the whites. These 2 trails fought for the rights of the blacks because the transport was biased towards the whites. These two trials were also related the book because under the same conditions as the book, black men were accused of rape when they actually did not commit the crime.

The Civil War
Hey guys! William Zhao hereee! Man! I got so many posts to blog! Alright, let's get back to work. Today I will be posting about The Civil War.
What is Civil War
So what is Civil war and when and how it happened? Alright, brace for impact! The American Civil War, also known as the War Between the States, was a civil war in the United States of America. Eleven Southern slave states declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America , also known as "the Confederacy." Led by Jefferson Davis, the Confederacy fought against the United States (the Union), which was supported by all twenty free states (where slavery had been abolished) and by five slave states that became known as the border states. There are 11 southern slave states involved in this war and here are some of the examples : Virginia, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. Well, it was Abraham Lincoln, the 16th United States President, who proclaimed war against the South.
So why was the civil war fought?
The roots of this tragic conflict go back to the birth of the country. The founding fathers, for all their wisdom, could not solve all the differences between the original thirteen states.
The products of their labors, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, failed to totally define the relationship between the Federal Government and the States. The slavery question received no more than a partial and temporary solution.
These issues of states' rights festered and the rhetoric inside the Congress grew more heated. Finally, words were no longer enough for some and the nation began to split apart.
The secession of 11 Southern States and the unbending position of President Lincoln toward preserving the Union led to the first shot fired on Fort Sumter in 1861. The Rubicon had been crossed. The civil war was fought between 1861-1865. Source : http://ehistory.osu.edu/uscw/index.cfm
It abolished slavery as a legal institution in the United States. The one irreconcilable difference between the North and the South during a time when our country was expanding was the introduction of slavery into new territories. In fact, the main prelude to the bloodbath to come was in "Bleeding Kansas" during the late 1850's as people actively killed one another over the question of slavery. It took two additional amendments to the U.S. Constitution and an additional hundred years of civil rights struggle to completely erase the stain of slavery, but the Civil War and Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation began the process.
So how was this book related to the civil war? Atticus, a white wrote for Tom Johnson, a black despite their races. Atticus besides of not discriminate Tom and even helped him.

Jim Crow's Law
Hey guys!:D Back in action yet again in a day's time! So, today I'm going to post about Jim Crow's Law. To be honest, Jim Crow's Law sounds weird to me when I first read it. So I'm going to spread what I have learn! Comment and ENJOY!:D
Jim Crow' Law
What or who is Jim Crow? The name Jim Crow is often used to describe the segregation laws, rules, and customs which arose after the Reconstruction ended in 1877 and continued until the mid - 1960s. Well, Jim Crow's laws were state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. They mandated de jure racial segregation in all public facilities, with a supposedly "separate but equal" status for black Americans. In reality, this led to treatment and accommodations that were usually inferior to those provided for white Americans, systematizing a number of economic, educational and social disadvantages.
Despite the impact of how “Jim Crow” shaped state laws and customs, African Americans made a variety of choices in response to segregation and other forms of discrimination. Led by key leaders such as Ida B Wells, Booker T. Washington, D.E.B. Dubois, and Benjamin Singleton, African Americans responded to the oppression by whites in very different ways, but always with justice in sight. At the same time white southerners continued to ensure segregation and preserve white dominance, refusing to believe equality to exist for a race that at one time, existed strictly for their own profit.
So in relationship with the book, Tom Robinson was accused by a white for raping, he lost the case although it was clear he was wrongly accused.
Harper Lee
Hey guys! I'm back!:D Well, all these posts are related to the book, titled : "To Kill A Mockingbird".
The author is well respected and her name is Harper Lee! And, I am going to report her in my this blog post! Comment and ENJOY!:D
Harper Lee
Who is she? Why and how did she became famous? Well, I'm going to answer all those doubts in this blog post. Harper Lee, well she is an American Author, best known for her first and only book, :"To Kill A Mockingbird". The book deals with the issues of racism that were observed by the author as a child in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. Nelle Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama, the youngest of four children of Amasa Coleman Lee and Frances Cunningham Finch Lee.As a child, Lee was a tomboy and a precocious reader, and was best friends with her schoolmate and neighbor, the young Truman Capote. She pursued a Law degree at the University of Alabama from 1945 to 1949, including a year abroad at Oxford University. After graduation, she worked for an airline in New York, but she soon decided she wanted to be a full time writer. She gave up her position with the airline and moved into a cold-water apartment with makeshift furniture. It took her 2 years to revisit and rewrite the novel once she had completed the draft.
Through this novel she had published, she had won quite a number of awards such as the Presidential Medal of Freedom of United States and also the 1961 Pulitzer Prize. Not only that, To kill a mockingbird was also made into a film. To Kill a Mockingbird was significant to Harper Lee was because she wrote truthfully what she saw and what she knew. The book was greatly written about Slavery and discrimination towards the Blacks in America during her days.
So why is the book, " To kill a Mockingbird'' ? It is because it was the first and only auto-biographical.

Civil Rights Movement
Hey guys! Unfortunately , I have to report many stories in just one day time. This post wil be about Civil Rights Movement. So please comment and ENJOY!:D
Civil Rights Movement
What is Civil rights movement and when did it happen? Well, I'm going to answer all the doubts in this post. The Civil rights movement actually was a worldwide political movement for the equality before the law between 1950 and 1930. The process was long and tenuous in many countries, and most of the movements did not fully achieve their goals although, the efforts did lead to improvements in the legal rights of previously oppressed group peoples.
Here are some examples of the significant incidents that took place during the civil rights movement :
1) The threat to march on Washington D.C. During WWII, President Truman creating his 10-point civil rights program, the 14th amendment being passed, the revoking of the separate but equal doctrine in 1954.
2)During 1964, May 4 , Over the spring and summer, student volunteers begin taking bus trips through the South to test out new laws that prohibit segregation in interstate travel facilities, which includes bus and railway stations. Several of the groups of "freedom riders," as they are called, are attacked by angry mobs along the way. The program, sponsored The Congress of Racial Equality. (CORE) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), involves more than 1,000 volunteers, black and white.
Well, which American President supported the civil rights movement. The outcome of this Civil Rights movement is that many African American were treated as important as the whites. Slavery is now illegal and discrimination Blacks are also against the law. Both Civil Rights Movement and To kill a mockingbird are about fighting rights for the African American.
