Male Child

Well, basically this story i like most because the character changed almost instantly. Chuan Poon was always hoping for a son to take over his business and he had six daughters already. He thought that there was a curse on him. He began to cast about in his mind for the possible causes of divine displeasure, and decided on two: when he was a young man, working as a rubber tapper on a large and lonely plantation, he had one day done a very stupid and dangerous thing: he had actually urinated near a shrine on a grassy mound in this plantation, and had never even offered a joss-stick in expiration afterwards. Secondly, a few years after he was married and had begun to start his own business of dry goods, he had gone to the temple with his wife for the festival of the ghastly thing which, if his wife had known about, would have utterly scandalized her-he had, secretly of course, consumed a meal rice and beef curry in a restaurant, when he was supposed to have been purifying himself like the others on a vegetarian's diet, in preparation for this festival. After the incident, he's been praying and praying days and nights, hoping to remove the curse. He also been not eating meat, hoping to lessen the god's anger. Once he went to consult a fortune teller and found to his great joy as its going to be a male child. For a time, his anxieties disappears. Later, his friend Ah Bah invited Chuan Poon for a drink and he accepted. Then an old women came out with another young woman. It turned out that young woman was the niece of the old woman. Ever since, Chuan Poon fell in love with her. Soon his wife found out that. She said that if the baby was a girl, Chuan Poon can marry the young woman and she will serve her without any complaints. After hearing this, Chuan Poon sighed a relief and from that day onwards he every day prayed that the baby was a girl.
